The March Of Liberty Proceeds Apace

Over at AntiState.com, a talkative geometric shape offers this profound insight:

And I would say on average females are intellectually weak when compared to males, despite what they may score on I.Q. tests. Not that I think that’s saying a great deal, since most males are intellectually weak in my opinion.

Uh, okay. Whatever you say, pal. Mr. Shape helpfully demonstates his intellectual strength by linking to a page called “The Truth About The 9/11 Attacks”, which, as expected, turns out to be the usual collection of demented lies. Very impressive.

The person who starts off this carnival of reason over at Anti-State.com is a Stirnerite cutie who calls herself AutoInsomiac (a name I could say something about, but won’t.) This bouncy little redhead is given to chirping sweet little nothings like “Death to the weak and botched.” and “If we had some sort of robot people or genetic manipulation machines, I’m all for altering the biophysiological constants of the human race.”. If only!

Ms. AutoInsomiac titles her initial post “Fuck People Who Can’t Help Themselves”. This is probably good advice for some people, as those who can’t help themselves will be unable to crawl away. I don’t know why Ms. AutoInsomniac takes this position herself, though, as (judging from her tiny picture, at least) she is certainly cute enough (in a dated, let’s-go-to-fetish-night-at-the-Vogue kind of way) to get it on without having to trap paraplegics in stalled elevators. In fact I would be pleased to offer more specific suggestions on who she should fuck (all those feeding tubes and used Depends must get depressing, after a while) were it not for ominous statements on her part (in her LiveJournal) like “Personally I think all ‘rights’ are arbitrary concepts, and that ‘life’ is a property right.” This would suggest that a romantic interlude with Ms. AutoInsomniac might be a rather tense occasion, what with keeping an eye on your wallet, remembering to never turn your back on her, and casually checking the kitchen drawer every few minutes to see if any of the knives have gone missing.

Much of the thread gives the impression that desperately inferior people are kidding themselves, with a few exceptions (What are you doing over there, Mr. Swearingen? Shouldn’t you be busy selling the Anti-State posters to the Indians for whisky? Or does that work the other way around? I can never get it straight.)

I suppose pretending that you are a powerful, remorseless asshole is better than admitting that you are, in reality, a powerless, ineffectual asshole posting to a online forum. Hell is more fun when you’re helping to keep the furnaces stoked. Ms. Perky the Nihilist assures us with deadpan sincerity that “And thus we reveal the essential merging of these two schools of thought, which are in fact fairly similar in many respects: The Strong Men are a result of the Weak Men, and with the coming of the Egoist individual the Strong Man has met his match.” Why be just an egoist when you can be a Egoist?

Of course, the worse thing that could happen to any of these people would be if anybody were to take what they write seriously, and not just as a futile, self-aggrandizing little game. Ms. AutoInsomniac frivolously says “It is true that Nietzsche had no qualms with murder, rape or any other sort of means.  Nor do I myself, morality is a worthless shibboleth.” without any understanding of what she is really saying.

“Stefan George stated: ‘We see in every event, every age, only a means to artistic stimulus. Even the freest of the free could not manage without the ethical blanket – we have only to think of the concepts of guilt and so on [ ! ] – which has become to us quite worthless.’ Symptoms of the same condition showed in the contempt for man seen in literature and art, the brutality of style and expression which ran parallel with the mania for twilight and darkness, the delight in barbarism, downfall, myth and cynicism which were not confined to the political right. …Keyed as they were to a mood of downfall and destruction, artists, writers and intellectuals as a whole failed to see that the culture which they were slandering included everything upon which their existence as artists, writers and intellectuals rested, and many eventually acclaimed the victory of National Socialism precisely because of the possibilities of barbarism and chaos which it brought with it – to the terror, as they thought, only of a ‘cowardly and well-fed bourgeoisie’.

Too late they realized that the terror was directed against all of them. Many paid terribly for their blindness. To others, however, fate was kind: the consequences of what they had so emphatically called into being were not forced upon them. They merely fell silent, cowered in a corner, and remained untouched, while noting with secret bitterness the rule of the mob, the barbarisation of public life, the path to war and chaos- and found that this was not the mob, the barbarism, the chaos which they had once called down upon civilization.”

Hmmmm – which is more offensive? The rantings of an anonymous anti-war activist on a blog….saying such wicked things as “Fuck People Who Can’t Help Themselves!”

    OR

The finger-stomping, anal raping brave defenders of “liberty and justice for all” of the 372nd?

Oh…. I get it – we have to murder, torture and wickedly abuse the Iraqi people in order to “Save Them” and promote “Freedom” around the world

Of course impotent rantings on the Internet by people opposed to the “War Without End-Amen – On Terror” are of course wicked wicked people doing tremendous harm and evil. And as for the Torturers at Abu-Gharib… well

    “Mistakes were made.”

  2. Stefan,

I’m quite unsure of the future of the American State. It could soft-crash ala the USSR, it could implode into another civil war, some bright boy with his new Build-A-Bug(tm) Home Biowar Development Kit could gene-engineer some nasty that’d make the question one for a future civilization to ponder. The most likely thing I see is that I’ll have less net personal freedom one year from today, with that loop repeating until I die.

But I don’t know, and I know there’s lotsa things I don’t know. So that’s some comfort, and the fact that I can check out any time I want to is another. Not that I have any plans to, the show’s just starting. In any case, Beck has given me a reason to live even if all others should fail:

What you have here is a herd of beasts who do not object when government force is wielded on behalf of the things that they value, but will get up on their hind legs and moan and holler when the game goes the other way: when the whip comes down for something that they don’t value, they will actually begin to make noises about starving the hand that bleeds them.

    The rotten bastidges.

If things ever went for the worst, I know — in my own soul — that I could spend the rest of my days laughing every day at them, from the other end of the cell block.

And that applies to about 99.99% of the inhabitants of the US of A. So I’ll have plenty of grimly satisfied moments when we’re all enjoying the brisk weather, plentiful excercise, and weight-reducing diet provided for us in Homeland Security Re-Education Camp 16-4. Yeah, Hoppe and Kinsella might have all the government border fence they can handle, and then some.

Hey look, everybody, Sabotta’s being self-referential again.

Friend and lover of darkness, thou who doest rejoice when the bitches are howling and warm blood is spilled, thou who art walking amid the phantom and the place of the tombs, thou whose thirst is blood, thou who doest strike chill and fear in mortal hearts, Gorgo, Mormo, Moon of a thousand forms, cast a propitious eye on our sacrifice.

  5. Whiny little bitch Aaron G. is all upset because I am unimpressed by his paleocreep pals over at Lew Rockwell’s. How unfortunate. But I’m not alone in my hateful opinions:

“Finally, as an Austrian economist, I think the MI has done far more damage to Austrian economics than good. I am *embarassed* when someone knows Austrian economics through the MI and then puts me in the position of having to explain why what I do has nothing to do with theocracy, Confederacy nostalgia, xenophobia, and, yes, anti-Semitism. (Unlike Rod, I don’t see *any* merit in the anti-immigration arguments that MI types have raised.)”

    From http://hnn.us/comments/43659.html

  6. Just out of curiosity Lopez, do you think the US will ultimately go the way of the Third Reich, exploding into pieces in out attempts at territorial conquest? Or perhaps a less-inspiring slow degrade into civil chaos? Will there still be Lopez’s and Kinsella’s and JTK”s around when it happens, do you suppose?

  7. Hey look, everybody, Sabotta’s being self-referential again.

Well at least it isn’t a reference to a kid’s show or a picture of body mutilation.

  8. Hola Lopez, “(As an aside, Stephan Kinsella, a member of LRC in good standing, is quite intellectually distinguished. Amazing, really.)”

What, a guy can’t have a brain, a career, AND the sense of humour of a 14 year old?

I’m no “member” of LRC, however, technically speaking, much less one in good standing.

Daddy is not concerned about any of this. I just got THE RUNES OF THE EARTH in the mail today. COVENANT RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. Aaron G: …since LRC/Mises is both established and morally distinguished…

What makes LRC morally distinguished, again? Their lust for initiating force against immigrants is indeed morally distinguishing in that it distinguishes them from those who hold consistent libertarian morals, it’s true. I’m not sure that’s what you mean, though.

(As an aside, Stephan Kinsella, a member of LRC in good standing, is quite intellectually distinguished. Amazing, really.)

  10. Kinsella: I’m no “member” of LRC, however, technically speaking, much less one in good standing.

But you’re still quite intellectually distinguished. Technically speaking.

  11. “Nevermind”: Yapyapyap AbuGhraib yap whine…

Maybe that’s a paraphrase. Anyhoo, this is the point where I ask N to provide a citation of his/her implication that Sabotta cheerleads the sexual torture of Iraqi prisoners by members of the American military, and also the point at which s/he bravely runs away- here:

  12. I am asking you directly, what alternative to Mises can you possibly proffer, when all I can see on this site are sarcastic dalliances and naked women?

    The naked women aren’t enough?

  13. Yeah, John, after reading that whopper of a rebuttal from Kinsella I’m sorry I even bothered. Un-be-freaking-leavable.

Continuing, I’d like to remind you that I disagree with Hoppe’s stance on immigration, I think I’ve stated that. I also disagree with Muslim’s view on zakat as well, being that it’s a tax and all. Regardless, even as a Christian I still respect many Muslims and count them as friends and associates. I believe homosexual intercourse is morally wrong, and I find the mechanics repulsive, and I still regularly enjoy wonderful evenings in the company of gays and lesbians. Finally, even though I find the statist beliefs of Democrats/Republicans loathesome and horrendous, I somehow manage to hold down my apoplectic rage at the overriding repugnance of whichever administration is in office in order to work, eat and sleep among people that think the government is the answer to all our problems.

Understanding this, perhaps you could possibly try to explain to me what strange mechanics of thought you have resorted to, that you so revile and despise LRC/Mises. Excepting Kinsella’s lack of maturity, is it at all possible that you could disagree with some of the positions of LRC/Mises and still respect them for the overwhelmingly positive influence they have in spreading the Austrian Theory? Is there a chance that Gary North’s desire to live in a religiously homogenous society is not a clarion call to start stoning the gays? Could Hoppe’s stance on immigration possibly just translate into a (partially incorrect) desire to preserve his own standard of living, rather than a plea to the government to fire on the Mexicans at will?

I’ll admit, your talent for exaggeration is admirable. Unfortunately, the caricatures that you paint are far more suitable to a comedy club than a serious discussion of ideologies. How am I supposed to take you (much less Sabotta) seriously when you’re the worst sort of Peanut Gallery sideshow goons imaginable? I am asking you directly, what alternative to Mises can you possibly proffer, when all I can see on this site are sarcastic dalliances and naked women? It’s not a foundation that I’m interested in.

For once, be constructive. Give me an answer that’s not a retort. I beg you.

P.S. Anything from Lynette, and some of your more serious stuff I do appreciate. I wish there was a little more of that and a little less guttersniping.

  14. Well, Sabotta, as we all know, all good things come to those who hate…

Or maybe not. I can understand how the counterculturalist strain that manifests itself so strongly in you could be drawn in by the caricature of the lone rebel voice in the wilderness, revealing the central truths about the mysteries of life that are apparent to everyone but the establishment.

Unfortunately, where I think you go astray is when your disestablishmentarianism supercedes your anarchism, hence your belief that since LRC/Mises is both established and morally distinguished, they must therefore have statist designs. This guilt by association is disingenuous at best, and positively slanderous at its worst.

Two things to ponder: How on earth do you expect an anarchic society to function smoothly without a relatively morally homogenous base? Aggression comes as often due to cultural misunderstandings as it does out of a desire to oppress (often more).

Secondly, how do you expect to convince those of conservative morals of the value of a free and voluntary society if all the results of “libertarianism” they see are less about liberty and more about libertines? There’s an old belief, severely out of vogue these days, that if you’re going to bother competing at all, you should do it with class and style. What is the benefit of winning an argument if everyone you’ve competed with hates your guts? Even if you are right, they’re not going to come to your side if you’re an a-hole. Or is that even really your goal, Sabotta? I read your elitist toilet counterculture crap, and I can’t help think that, unlike Mises, you don’t really care about being right, just so long as you can prove how different from everyone else you really are.

Of course, that’s your prerogative to be a “powerless, ineffectual a**hole posting to a online forum,” it’s just stupid to get mad when someone calls you on it.

  15. Aaron G. – “For once, be constructive. Give me an answer that’s not a retort. I beg you.”

Two points, made in this comment thread, provide the answer Aaron G. “begs” for.

John Lopez – “You need to work on the problem of your own personal freedom in your own way, because it’s you and a bare handful of other principled individualists against the entire world.”

And this, also from Lopez – “I am telling you straight up that you need to “>”Do Something.”

What does it take, though, to be enabled to do something. Sabotta drops the answer into Aaron G’s. hand, “principled individualists,” though John also notes the dim future of these true leaders by example.

I have no horse in the corrals of LRC or Mises, but I note, that a requirement to keep a horse in the corrals, of either LRC or Mises, seems to require a conformity to the “rules,” or the statist commonality.

Constructive enough for you, Aaron G?

Oh, and don’t forget these words from Horace.

“What forbids us to tell the truth, laughingly?”

  16. Understanding this, perhaps you could possibly try to explain to me what strange mechanics of thought you have resorted to, that you so revile and despise LRC/Mises.

I don’t revile and despise LRC/Mises. Lewrockwell.com publishes a large amount of foolishness, and I comment on a fraction of what I see. The strange fetish for the Confederacy that LRC cherishes is more sad than contemptible, but their stance on immigration is just plain intellectually dishonest. Intellectual dishonesty needs to be exposed.

I asked you what how LRC/Mises can be called morally distinguished. I’m not seeing an answer, here.

Excepting Kinsella’s lack of maturity, is it at all possible that you could disagree with some of the positions of LRC/Mises and still respect them for the overwhelmingly positive influence they have in spreading the Austrian Theory?

I don’t think LRC/Mises.org are useless, but I think they have a large amount of weight that’s dragging them down. I’m not sure what you mean by “respect”, but if it means “turn a blind eye when they publish something stupid”, I won’t do it.

This is something I’ve seen over and over: I don’t expect any quarter from the other participants here at No Treason, when I say something stupid/wrong. However, the Mises/LRC crowd seems to have an unwritten code of conduct that precludes “intramural” attacks. Example: I once noted in comments on the mises.org blog that Hoppe’s wish for the government to act as the personal owner of the land was un-libertarian. I received an email for Jeffrey Tucker shortly thereafter calling my post “incredible” and “irresponsible”.

Needless to say, Tucker couldn’t refute me. The case against Hoppe’s immigration opinion is airtight. I was merely warned about being nicer, or something. That’s fine, they can have a club if they want. I don’t know what sort of folks they intend to attract with fuzzy thinking, but that isn’t my problem, nor is my free content a problem any longer for the Mises blog.

Is there a chance that Gary North’s desire to live in a religiously homogenous society is not a clarion call to start stoning the gays?

Maybe – I have no opinion of North other than noting that his Y2K predictions failed to live up to his expectations.

Could Hoppe’s stance on immigration possibly just translate into a (partially incorrect) desire to preserve his own standard of living, rather than a plea to the government to fire on the Mexicans at will?

It’s a binary choice: either a) Hoppe does not realize that he’s endorsing the initiation of force against peaceful travellers, or b) Hoppe realizes that he’s endorsing the initiation of force against peaceful travellers. If a), then the LRC/Mises touting of Hoppe as a great mind is laughable, because it’s a trivial excercise to point out that Hoppe’s arguments mean government employees attacking peaceful travellers. If b), then Hoppe is no different in principle from any cheap Commie rat who wants to grab hold of The Gun and turn it on folks, because he needs to attack people in order to “preserve his own standard of living”. So Hoppe is either incapable of thinking rationally about this issue or he’s not a libertarian.

    So, which one is it?

How am I supposed to take you (much less Sabotta) seriously when you’re the worst sort of Peanut Gallery sideshow goons imaginable?

That’s your problem, not mine. If my call for a society where crack cocaine, handguns, and homosexual pornography are all avaliable from the same vending machine bothers you, then refute it.

I am asking you directly, what alternative to Mises can you possibly proffer, when all I can see on this site are sarcastic dalliances and naked women?

I am telling you straight up that you need to Do Something. That’s the alternative to Mises/LRC. Get this, and get it real good: there isn’t gonna be any mass libertarian movement. No “Anti-Marx”. No LP-controlled Congress. CATO will never approach the power of the AARP. You need to work on the problem of your own personal freedom in your own way, because it’s you and a bare handful of other principled individualists against the entire world.

I don’t have an answer other than the fact that libertarian movements are doomed by nature. If you’re like most folks, you’ll go into total cognitive shutdown now, and say that since I don’t know what to do either, you’ll keep trying what’s demonstably impossible.

  17. I am asking you directly, what alternative to Mises can you possibly proffer, when all I can see on this site are sarcastic dalliances and naked women?

    – Aaron G.

But the consensus of opinion in town was unfavourable. Most people were dissatisfied, because a shooting was not such a fine spectacle as a decapitation; and what a ridiculous culprit he had been too, to pass through so many streets without singing a single line from an opera. They had followed him for nothing.

    – The True Story of Ah Q, by Lu Xun

There is no alternative, because there is no hope. Lopez is right, but even more right than he may think, since the “principled individualists” are as doomed as everybody else. Honor demands that scoundrels be denounced, but it still won’t do any good.

  18. I wouldn’t give Stupid Girl too much thought. She’s just some dumb teenager affecting nonsense. She claims not to believe in morality or justice, yet in the next breath uses them.

So quick to write people off Wild Panda. Dispite her trite view on morality, she has shown herself to be somewhat a scholar when it comes to economics. She certainly has a firmer grasp than you on the subject.
