"Liberals Own Guns, Too"
"fifth column"
"...This term was invented by General Emilio Mola during the Spanish Civil War in a radio broadcast on October 16, 1936, in which he said that he had una quinta columna (a fifth column) of sympathizers for General Franco among the Republicans holding the city of Madrid, and it would join his four columns of troops when they attacked. The term was popularized by Ernest Hemingway and later extended to any traitorous insiders"
A facinating and revealing exchange at Democratic Underground, in which paranoid hysteric William Rivers Pitt informs us that he's armed and dangerous.
First Pitt recommends that his DU comrades fly American flags upside down in order to protest the war "The universal symbol for distress, send help. There is no shame nor desecration in this." he assures his terrified flock. "Do it." commands Comrade Commissar Pitt.
A certain "TrogL' opines "This is an open invitation for Freepers to go apeshit they're gonna be feelin' feisty after all this war footage."
William Pitt replies (doubtlessly grinding his teeth as he types) "They know where I live. But they haven't visited, because liberals own guns, too."
Yes, Mr. Pitt balks at a foreign war, but claims to be prepared for a hallucinatory shootout with the "freepers"! We don't have to believe Mr. Pitt (gun-hoarding liberals in Boston, of all places?) to appreciate the pathetic irony of the quasi-revolutionary rhetoric over at Democratic Underground. These are, after all, the same liberals who, during the Clinton regime, reviled all of us as "anti-government nuts", who cheered on every assault on our Constitutional liberties, who supported the Waco massacre - the same liberals who are now...afraid. It couldn't happen to nicer people, after all.
But it would it be deceptive to see this as merely a case of "the biter bit." Our opposition to the Clinton regime arose from that regime's attacks on our legitimate rights. The new anti-government liberals hate Bush because they love worse people - because their sympathies are with the Islamofascists, with the European collectivists and anti-Semites, and because, above all, they hate their fellow-Americans. Just look around for a while at Democratic Underground.com and you'll see for yourself.
Our would-be fifth columnists are no threat. Despite the boasting and bluster they indulge in on their message boards, they are afraid of weapons and are mostly unarmed. And, more importantly, they are cowards. Their anti-government veneer will vanish when a Democrat is elected President again - then they'll worship law n'order as they did during the Clinton years. All they can do is provide harmless amusement.
And it's so satisfying to see their fear.
