John - As kids we affectionately called that haircut a “brushcut.” I recall battling with my parents to obtain my right to grow my hair long, ‘72/’73, rather than have to wear the brushcut any longer. I didn’t “win” until ‘75. I don’t have a brushcut now, but I’m not far from it.
John, we called it a “butch”. From high school on I tended to wear my hair very long but sometime in my late thirties I went back to a crew cut because it’s so damn easy to maintain. If I grew it out now it would be mostly white.
My folks always nagged me about my long har. My Mom would say “You’d be so much more comfortable with it cut short like your father…” to which I would answer “…then why don’t you try it?” They were nonplussed I think when it became apparent that I could get good jobs with long hair, they were counting on “the real world” to straighten me out.
Now my hair is shorter then my Dad’s so I keep telling him “Get a haircut, hippy!”
My dear mother has a picture similar to that of me (only I was was dressed at the time in a checkered twead vest of some kind — made me look like British high class) hanging in her home. Same butch haircut, tho. And I had that same kind of prehensile dentition action going on too.

And I’ve gone back to that old haircut.
Stopped shaving though.

John, I’ve heard it called the “Butch” also. Funny about those parental arguments now. It sure pissed me off when I was losing them as a kid.
