Not One Wholesome Word

Dec 31, 04 | 6:22 pm by John T. Kennedy

On television and radio I have yet to hear one person utter a single decent or wholesome word about this “stingyness” crap.

It started when Jan Egeland, the United Nations emergency relief coordinator, complained that $15 million in relief from the U.S. was stingy. My initial reaction was that it was pretty offensive coming from a parasite. My second reaction, a heartbeat later, was that it’s far more offensive that George Bush and Colin Powell give my money to guys like this.

The next thing I hear is some numbskulled local talk show host agreeing with the U.N. official. He’s saying the U.S. should be doing “Whatever it takes”. Whatever it takes? Is this clown willing to live his own life that way? Of course not.

Then Powell and Bush are back on TV and they can’t give away my money fast enough. There’s more relief coming - much, much more. It’s just disgusting to see how easily my parasites are goaded by U.N. parasites.

On Fox News I see a couple of twits discussing private corporate relief efforts. The first twit impugns the motives of those offering private charity: “Aren’t they really doing this for private gain?” Of course you won’t hear him accuse politicians of giving away other people’s money for their own personal gain, though that’s precisely what’s happening right in front of him. Now the second twit gets into the act: “Are these companies really giving enough considering how much money they make?”

There’s no pleasing these monsters. God damn these twits, I want to see every one of them announce publicly how much they make and how much they’re donating to tsunami relief so we can all ruminate over whether they’re giving enough.

So today Colin Powell is playing kissy-face with Kofi Annan and promising $350 million now, and perhaps billions before all is said and done. A nitwitted Fox commentator opines that the U.N. official who called the U.S. stingy would probably like to eat his words now. Um, why? It kind of looks like he played a part in prying a few hundred million dollars from American taxpayers, money which may very well flow through his hands. Ouch! I guess he learned his lesson.

Changes

Dec 28, 04 | 7:27 pm by John T. Kennedy

I’ve ported the blog to WordPress which seems has better tools for fighting comment spam. You should be able to comment freely now, with no need to register. At the moment I’m just using a default template but I plan to recover much of the look and feel of the older blog.

NT bloggers should not use the old pMachine panel, instead use the login link near the bottom of the right hand column. Your old login and password should work. Let me know if you have any problems.

Mike Soja: For some reason your account didn’t port with the rest of the blog, I’ll send you info on your new account shortly.

Want To Know What Cops Think About You?

Go here and read the comments from “Wayne” and “Sergeant Mac”.

The laughing, sneering contempt displayed by these public “servants” is quite touching. And just think: the fact that these two are commenting on an obscure gun-rights case means that they are very likely among the closest that their kind gets to being in favor of human freedom.

Given A Reasonable Choice…

Dec 24, 04 | 3:08 am by John T. Kennedy

A recent post by Beck sent me to Tyler Cowen’s blog by way of which I found this:

I’m only spitballing here — in the absence of research on the question, what else to do? — but I think that if given a reasonable choice, at least a million or two people would opt out of Social Security. There are at least that many people in the United States for whom it would make financial sense to pay to get out.

Given a reasonable choice nearly everyone would opt out of Social Security. Just try making it voluntary and see what happens.

Given a reasonable choice nearly everyone would opt out of all taxes, thus opting out of government completely.

The only reasonable choices are free choices, which means that the reasonable alternatives to the state are always to be found in private enterprise, never in collective politics. Properly understood, the dismantling of the state is the greatest business opportunity of our time.

For anybody who’s buying a pet for for the kids this holiday season - or the future lung (or lungs) of 6,000,000,000,000,000 AD:

Take One Home for the Kiddies

On shallow straw, in shadeless glass,
Huddled by empty bowls, they sleep:
No dark, no dam, no earth, no grass -
Mam, get us one of them to keep.

Living toys are something novel,
But it soon wears off somehow.
Fetch the shoebox, fetch the shovel -
Mam, we’re playing funerals now.

The blueish grey thing

So I’m talking to E. who I’ve known for probably over a decade now. He’s moved to a faraway desert-like state now, but nothing has changed. I ask E, I ask, How’s it going, Eric? and I get back the same answer I’ve always gotten year after year after year, the same answer I got even when E. was going out with the large-breasted Little Mother Of All The Fetish Scene (whose name was also E., for Erika):

How’s it going, Eric?

Could be better.

(I grimly attempt to keep the conversation going by politely inquiring Getting any of that Mormon girl action? to which E. only replies with a sound - halfway between a sardonic choked burst of laughter and a dismal sob - that indicates the hopeless folly of all human endeavor.)

Shodan!

Dec 19, 04 | 1:32 am by Andy Stedman

After a many hour test, demonstrating well over a hundred techniques, I earned my shodan (first degree black belt) in judo today. I’ll be having a nice cigar later.

Here’s something NT’ers will like from the founder of judo, Jigoro Kano’s book, “Kodokan Judo”:

Respect for life is universally recognized, and if an individual’s life is at stake, any means available to avert the danger is undeniably justified. Even when life is not threatened, the power to restrain others is a source of physical and psychological confidence.

Lewrockwell.com’s Next Hero?

In the past, LRC has had warm words for the likes of commie Ted Rall and idiot racist Jared Taylor, when their gibbering has fallen sufficiently close to the paleo party line. So, why not this latest person to slither aboard the “cultural conservatism” bandwagon?

Why not Hillary Clinton?
